Hey there, I used the internet first time when I was 16. I am using it almost every day since. We learn we share, we enjoy we do a lot of things on the internet. We don't pay to use google, we don't pay to use youtube and information is almost free. When I started short-form content was not that prevalent. Fast forward to 2023 short-form content is the most occupying part of the content we consume. Our attention is new oil. The company which has it most is the new Saudi.
I am not concerned if Google got the oil or if Facebook extracted it. I am most concerned about its footprints on my brain. Feeling uneasy, anxious, and left behind became common. But as the saying goes you can't access the precise movement of the ball when you are on the ship. A fish with x-ray vision can see the zig-zag pattern that the ball is moving. It's hard for us to observe its effects on our brain when it's already on the ship of my brain.
One day I was watching the Andrew Huberman podcast on youtube. Because of this podcast, I learned how our brains are wired to work. There is a system or phenomenon in the human race that makes it necessary to develop or die. To tell our brains about wrong and right things, the reward system evolved. If we do something that promotes this phenomenon. I observed that there was nothing in my life that made me feel alive, there was nothing that made me happy, also there was nothing that made me sad. I felt like I am a dead sole just going through the week day by day.
To reset my dopamine levels I decided to go on dopamine fast. (Thanks to Emam Gadzi). There are some fundamental rules that I established first.
No Social Media apps- Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter no LinkedIn. clean phone.
Removing all apps that just drop dopamine dose unknowingly- YouTube, (Music but I still use it)
No 18+ content.
